Games You Shouldn’t Have Missed In: April 2012

While it may be late into May at this point, we’re back again to bring you our top picks of the month of April. While we may not all be in complete agreement, like any good list, The Witcher 2 rates quite highly. RPGs aren’t the only pick of the month though, so read on and find out what Sean, Rob and Tom think you shouldn’t have missed from last month’s releases. Sean Halliday picks The Witcher 2: The PC version was one of my games of the year in 2011, so the concept of it being ported to the 360 was one that was both curious and worrying. Thankfully the port kept all the quality of the PC version (obviously without the high end visuals and the addition of a few more loading screens) which allowed the game to take the 60 by storm. The Witcher 2′s main key to its success is undoubtedly the power the players decisions have on the plot. It’s no mere gimmick but in fact a integral part of the experience. From the start of the game the players decision shape the experience the player is about to embark on. It truly gives a sense of story telling done right. With solid core gameplay and great work being put into the writing and voice work, The Witcher 2 is a fantastic experience to behold. Thomas Mullin picks Prototype 2: Have you ever had one of those days? As any self-respecting adult can agree, we’ve all had those days where the stresses of life can get on top of us. Radical entertainment have provided us with the solution to life’s many stresses in the form of Prototype 2. Is it clever, thoughtful and ultimately a stunning piece of video game art? Not by a long shot, but it does provide enough thrills and spills to keep the gore hounds and the unhinged happy after a day in the real world. James Heller is not an eloquent man, and aside from his verbal arsenal of F-Bombs, and the C-Bomb (well it is rated 18 for a reason), his ability to tear up a military base with the ease of a hot knife through butter is cathartic. You shouldn’t be playing if you’re looking for some meaning in the level of mass-carnage you’re capable of inflicting, as the story is laughable but it does lead the player to an almost worthwhile conclusion; but don’t worry about that as there is a city to slaughter. Open world games don’t get much more hectic than this, but it’s easy to control and fun to play. Go on, relieve your stress and forget about the woes of modern life for an hour or two. Let Prototype 2 give you the power to play out that anti-hero power fantasy you’ve always had. Rob Jones picks The Witcher 2: The Witcher 2 is my favourite game of April for two main reasons: it’s been far too long since the Xbox saw a truly amazing RPG…
