Folks, Band of Skulls @ Northampton Roadmender, 08/12/12

Before travelling down to Southampton to wrap up a successful tour in their hometown with one of the most promising bands to emerge this year, Band of Skulls passed through The Roadmender for a penultimate tour show and their inaugural Northampton gig. A decent size with a good set-up and a prime location for those both in the North and South, The Roadmender is a place that, while known in local circles for hosting a string of ‘indie’ club nights amongst other DJ-fueled events, can put on a great live music night.  It still in some respect holds its reputation for being a half-decent live music venue so it does have an appeal for reasonably popular bands to visit during tours. There’s enough room on the floor for a few hundred people, with a couple of dozen spots available for VIPs to overlook proceedings from a balcony. Both floor and balcony were pretty crowded by the time Band of Skulls took to the stage, but when the very promising Folks opened there was a surprisingly large crowd waiting to become fans of another band.
