    Publisher: Sony | Developer: Insomniac

    Genre: FPS | Platform: PS3

Summary: The third (and final?) chapter of Insomniac’s sprawling alien-buster sees new protagonist Joseph Capelli fighting for survival amidst the ravaged countryside of the US of A. Resistance 3 is very much about just staying alive – you’ll be engineering makeshift grenades out of bean cans and nails for instance. The weapon wheel from Fall of Man makes a comeback after being excluded from Resistance 2, and naturally the visuals have been ramped up a notch – you can now see every glob of slime on the chimera – lovely. Resistance has spent most of its existence in the shadow of PS3’s other FPS exclusive. Resistance 3 could well be the game to take Killzone’s crown.

Publisher: EA | Developer: People Can Fly, Epic Games

Genre: FPS | Platforms: PC, PS3, XBox 360

Summary: People Can Fly's extravagant FPS title doesn't approve of namby-pamby cover tactics (ironic considering the involvement of cover-based pioneers, Epic Games), rather it wants you to get rat-faced, fly in guns-blazing (and we're talking massive guns here) and generally be as bone-crunchingly violent as humanly possible. You'll be fighting through the lush jungles of the planet Stygia, a once utopian paradise that's succumbed to the old 'Rapture syndrome,' meaning you'll be faced with all manner of festering nasties such as man-eating plants. Helping you combat these will be kill combos known as Skillshots - the more creative you are with your gunplay the more rewards you unlock. Looks like a refreshing tonic to the drab greys and browns of the modern day FPS.
