Summary: The spiritual sequel to PS3’s ultra-hard action RPG Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls promises to be even more of a challenge. Doing away with the central hub world and class system of the original, Dark Souls allows you to more freely customize your character as they journey through a world of magic, minimal save points, and stupidly difficult bosses. With new weapons and magic at your disposal however, there may be hope for us wimpy auto-save types yet. Also returning is the helpful online mode, where players who’ve previously snuffed it can warn you about upcoming dangers. We still recommend stocking up on spare controllers though, just in case.

Summary: Originally developed as a PC exclusive, budget action RPG Torchlight packs hours of dungeon-crawling gameplay into a vivid and colourful world. Borrowing heavily from games of a similar ilk (Diablo we’re looking at you) Torchlight sees you battling monsters and collecting loot using three playable character classes; The Destroyer, The Alchemist and The Vanquisher. You also get a faithful pet to fight alongside (use the fireball, Fido!) and there’s a myriad of side-quests to get stuck into. Torchlight’s commercial and critical success meant that console ports were soon to follow, and fans will be pleased to know a sequel is in the pipeline.

Summary: PS3 owners final get to sample BioWare’s Sci Fi RPG masterpiece on 21 January 2011. The original game was an Xbox and PC only affair due to contractual ties with Microsoft but now BioWare and EA have teamed up everyone can enjoy the fruits of the Canadian studio’s labour. The game puts you in the shoes of one Commander Shepherd, whose appearance, race and gender you can customize before you start out. As with Dragon Age, you’ll recruit a party of fellow adventurers and be able to direct them in combat as you scuttle around the galaxy facing up to enemies on all manner of fantastic looking planets and their unique environments. The story’s top grade stuff and you’ll dictate the course of your adventure through the many dialogue options you’re presented with when chatting to NPCs. The dialogue system itself is ace, quick flicks and clicks with the analogue stick keeping the pace up. The PS3 version includes an interactive digital comic that will fill in the story gaps from the first Mass Effect and plenty of bonus content not found in the 360 version of Mass Effect 2 is also promised. So why should PS3 owners be excited? Well in pure numbers terms, Mass Effect 2 has a Metacritic rating of 96, making it one of the most highly scored games of all time on the site. It also bagged the Ultimate Game Of The Year accolade at the 2010 Golden Joysticks Awards, beating off Modern Warfare 2 in the fans’ vote. And as if that wasn’t enough to convince you, then here’s a review of the game from our friends at

Summary: Deus Ex: Human Revolution arrives some six years after the release of Invisible War, one of the most revered and ground-breaking action RPGs of all time. This is a prequel to the original, it's set 25 years prior to the events in Deus Ex and once again you play as Adam Jensen. A couple of major differences include mechanical body augmentations rather than nanotech ones and, somewhat controversially, auto-regenerating health. Warren Spector and Harvey Smith, the creative leads on the previous two titles, are sadly absent from development duties here but it still promises much. The release date for Deus Ex: Human Revolution is pencilled in as early 2011.
