My Bloody Valentine has been missing in action for a very long time, so long in fact that they can be declared legally dead. However, in tandem with the launch of a new website, the band has unleashed a sneak release of their much anticipated third LP – named simple ‘MBV’. Opening with the ominous fuzz for which they’re renowned, ‘She Found Now’ gets things into the introspective gear we’ve been hankering after for two decades. White-hot guitars meld with those infamous demur vocals and single the triumphant return of an old friend. ‘Only Tomorrow’ continues the hypnotic, naval-gazing with achingly beautiful panache. The vocals are especially ghostly and the guitar solos are a poignant as they are splintered. ‘Who Sees You’ is similarly epic, while ‘Is This And Yes’ is decidedly softer, dropping the fuzzbox antics in favour of some swelling keys. The methodical drum beat is still there, but the other sonic layers are gloriously elastic and soothing. ‘If I Am’ is another swelling, ethereal track. A cheeky little synth run signals the end, and ‘New You’ breaks into defiant swagger – the bass is driving, the tremolo guitars scathing, and the drums pounding. Similarly, ‘In another way’ …..
